Mototec 2000w 48v All Terrain Electric Scooter Review

Power, speed and range

The Mototec 2000 Watt 48v all terrain electric scooter is the most powerful Mototec scooter. You need to have lots of power to handle the off road terrain you might encounter. The 2000 Watt brushless motor as 8 times more power than the Xiaomi M365 electric scooter for example.

This powerful motor allows the scooter to reach a top speed of 20 mph or 35 km/h, depending of the terrain you ride on and the weight of the rider. 20 mph might seem not that much for a scooter with 2000 watts of power but the Mototec 2000w 48 v is an all terrain electric scooter and not designed for pure top speed.

The range is anywhere from 10-20 miles depending whether you ride in economy mode or not. When riding in economy mode you obviously save battery life but also have to make due with less power output. Most of the time people ride in economy mode and use the higher performance mode when more power is needed. Range of up to 20 miles might not seem like much but actually it is quite a bit of range.

The charging time of the battery is 6-8 hours, which is not overly long but not very quick either. If you are using the all terrain electric scooter regularly then you might want to think through when you are going to load the scooter otherwise you can find the battery to be low or empty when you need to use the scooter.

Suspension and Brakes of the Mototec 2000w 48v

The best all terrain electric scooter needs to have high quality suspension and brakes. Off road tracks can be very uncomfortable and even impossible to ride with a electric scooter with poor suspension.

The Mototect 2000w 48v all terrain electric scooter has single front and rear dual shock absorbers. These shocks greatly dampen the bumps and vibration you will experience when riding off road. It is not the best suspension system but along with the large 11-inch pneumatic knobby tires the effect is much better.

Air-filled tires do a very good job at improving overall ride quality and comfort. These knobby tires also provide plenty of traction when riding off road.

The brakes of the Mototec 2000w 48 v all terrain electric scooter are disc brakes, both front and rear. Anything less than disc brakes for a 2000 watt electric scooter is a sign of a poor scooter. Disc brakes are very reliable, offer plenty of stopping power and require little to no maintenance.

Frame and seat

The deck of the Mototec scooter is very wide and is made out of strong aluminium. This gives you plenty of space when riding and you won't feel cramped. It also has a foldable locking frame and a quick release seat, which is a very useful feature. Some people prefer riding sitting while others prefer standing. the removable allows you to have both options available. The folded dimension of the scooter are 46x25x21 inches, which is fairly compact.

Other features

The carrying capacity of the 105 pound electric scooter is 285 pounds. The carrying capacity of a standard e-scooter is about 220 pounds, so the extra 65 pounds is really useful for heavier riders. If you weigh over 285 pounds then you can still ride the scooter but the speed and range will not be as great.

The standard features of the Mototec 2000w 48 v all terrain electric scooter are:

  • Battery charger
  • Posi Lock folding frame
  • Horn
  • Key start
  • Quick release seat
  • Kickstand

The horn is not very loud and you might want to replace it with something louder. The kickstand is a useful feature and the key start also provides extra security.

Unfortunately the scooter does not come with lights or reflectors which is a bot of a bummer. But the lights of most scooters tend to be poor anyway and would require extra lights. You don't need lights if you mostly ride in the day time but for night time riding you do need fairly bright lights.

Is it the best all terrain electric scooter? Hard to say. It might certainly be the best all terrain electric scooter under $1000. It has many positive sides but some drawbacks as well.

It has plenty of power and acceleration, offers lots of grip when riding off road, ride quality is excellent as well. The 285 pound weight capacity is great news for heavier riders, as well as the detachable seat option.

The brakes work really well, although some have reported that the brake pads  tend to wear out. The rear fender is a bit short to protect the rider from water and mud.And you need to add front and rear lights when riding in the dark.

But for less than $1000 you will get a very solid all terrain electric scooter that will serve you really well. Mototec is a trusted company and offers very high quality scooters.

Great Scooter!

This has been my daily driver (5 miles, round trip) for nearly 10 months. I'm about 180lbs. and usually carry a 20lb. backpack. Overall, I'm very happy with the scooter.

PROS: Awesome power and acceleration. (My 90lb kid often rides with me and the scooter handles the extra weight without issue) Great traction on and off road. Relatively long battery life.

CONS: The brakes work, but the pads do not last long. Big-boy power and speed needs big-boy braking. I've had to engineer an extension for the rear fender to keep my butt dry while riding in the wet. I wouldn't recommend this scooter for little kids. The power and speed is quite scary at first and took me a couple weeks to get used to.
